Flood Watch, Teacher Evaluations, New Business Top This Week's News

Here's a look at the past week in Westwood, Hillsdale and Washington Township.

The National Weather Service announced a flood watch in Bergen County starting at 1 p.m. Wednesday and lasting until Thursday morning.

The storm was expected to bring 1.5 to 2 inches of precipitation. Local water levels were still higher than normal following another storm last week and a light snow Monday night.

No flooding was reported after the storm.

Westwood Teacher Evaluation Plan Approved For Statewide Use

A teacher evaluation instrument developed by the Westwood Regional School District is eligible to be used in schools across the state next year.

Westwood's teacher evaluation instrument was one of 20 approved by the New Jersey Department of Education and Westwood's administrator evaluation instrument was one of just 13 approved. Only a few instruments developed by New Jersey school districts were used. Most came from private companies.

Papillon Bambino Offers Kids' Gifts in Westwood

Downtown Westwood has a new stop for kids' gifts on special occasions.

Papillon Bambino was recently opened by local mom Tammy Lynch, who said she hoped to fill the hole left by the closings of Learning Express and The Lollipop Tree.

The shop offers baby registry services, clothes for ages 0-2 and toys for kids aged 0-7 like child-sized cars, stuffed animals, a tiny grand piano and unique gift baskets prepared by Lynch.

NJ Spotlight has created an interactive map using the recently released 2011 Uniform Crime Report that plots the total crime rate per 1,000 people for seven index crimes (four violent — murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault — and three non-violent — burglary, larceny and motor vehicle theft).
