Westwood Hospital Opening Wound Healing Center

HackensackUMC at Pascack Valley plans to renovate the ground floor of a neighboring building for the center, which will treat patients with diabetes.

HackensackUMC at Pascack Valley officials are planning to open a new wound healing center to treat patients with diabetes.

The center, which will be built in the ground floor of the Pascack Valley Medical Science Building at 270 Old Hook Road next to the hospital, will feature three hyperbaric chambers which will help patients with diabetic wounds or post-op infections, according to hospital CEO Chad Melton.

The oxygen-filled chambers help patients' wounds heal, he said.

"We're always trying to be proactive in addressing the needs of the community," Melton said.

The 2,800-square-foot center will include a treatment room, offices and other areas to supplement the three hyperbaric chambers. A 6.6-foot-diameter oxygen tank will also be installed on a new concrete pad outside the building.

The hospital brought their application to the Westwood Planning Board Thursday night. The board approved the plan at that meeting.

"This town has been very supportive of bringing the hospital back," Melton said.

The plan has already received state approval as well.
