'Tender is the Night' Closing After 25 Years

The Westwood lingerie shop's owners are ready to retire.

Tender is the Night Lingerie, a mainstay of downtown Westwood for 20 years, is closing at the end of the year, according to Marjorie Tesser, one of the shop's owners.

Tesser and her business partner, Bonnie Harwin, were coming to the end of their lease and needed to decide whether they wanted to commit to keeping the store for another five or 10 years.

"It was a tough decision," Tesser said. "We love the business and our people."

It was apparently just a coincidence that , Tesser said.

The store first opened in Nyack, N.Y. in 1987 and moved it to Westwood five years later, where they have been ever since.

Over the years, the shop has been a part of many local families' lives. The store catered to women of all ages, fitting some for their first bras and helping others as they changed over the years.

The store has also helped raise money for charities like the Rockland Family Shelter and the Octoberwoman Foundation for Breast Cancer Research.

Still, the women had other things they wanted to focus on. Harwin has five grandchildren around the country she wants to spend more time with. Tesser is a writer and editor who has published two books of poetry and edits a literary journal titled The Mom Egg.

Tender is the Night will remain open with a full stock and list of services through the end of the year. They will also be holding a sale and selling lucky red underwear for New Year's.

"We decided to do it as more of a celebration than a sad thing," Tesser said. "I figured, we'd go out with a bang."
