Venetian Care & Rehabilitation Center to open in South Amboy this summer

Beautiful new home will offer a new approach to short and long term care in a comfortable, home-like setting

Early this summer The Venetian Care & Rehabilitation Center opens in South Amboy’s Waterfront Redevelopment Area, offering quality care with a person-directed focus for those making the transition from hospital to home and those seeking long-term care.

“We are very excited to welcome residents and their families to our beautiful new community and to contribute to the rebirth of the South Amboy waterfront area at the same time,” said Hyman Jacobs, founder and CEO of Windsor Healthcare Communities, leaders in the field of person-directed, quality short- and long-term care.

The home will accommodate 60 short-term residents and another 120 nursing home residents. It is within walking distance of downtown South Amboy, the train station and two parks on the waterfront promenade, with scenic views and lots of entertainment opportunities.  The Venetian’s immediate neighbors are the South Amboy YMCA and new townhomes to be built by Woodmont Properties.

“We designed this home with an emphasis on comfort and a home-like environment,” said Michael Jacobs, vice president. “From the location we chose, to the floor plan and the rooms, we’ve created an environment that will allow us to treat each person as a unique individual and tailor their care around their needs and preferences.”

Batsheva Katz, vice president, noted that the surrounding community will enrich the lives of residents and guests, in keeping with the philosophy of person-directed care—that every stage of life should be just as important and vibrant as the others, filled with joy, connectedness, belonging and security.  The Venetian was explicitly designed to offer features for person-directed care. For example, the 93,000 square foot care and rehabilitation center - which is built in an E shape - includes separate living spaces that form “neighborhoods” on each floor to create welcoming community areas filled with natural light, lounge seating.

In addition to its neighborhoods on each level, the Venetian offers many other community spaces, including multiple dining rooms, recreational areas, libraries and outdoor gardens.  In the therapy garden, which replicates Windsor Healthcare’s award winning therapy garden at Merwick Care and Rehabilitation Center in Plainsboro, short term rehabilitation residents transitioning from hospital to home after illness or surgery can do their physical therapy outside in the fresh air.  The features allow residents to practice walking on different surfaces, getting in and out of a car and even reclaim their golf swing.

Two state of the art rehabilitation gyms and a full home kitchen will enable short-term guests recovering from an accident or surgery to undergo clinician-prescribed physical, occupational and speech therapy as comfortably and productively as possible in preparation for returning home in the shortest time possible.

The private and semi-private rooms at the Venetian offer plenty of space, comfort, sunlight and privacy. Each room has individual heating and cooling controls, flat-panel television and wireless Internet, which is also available in other spaces throughout the home.

From their rooms, people living and staying at the Venetian will have views of the South Amboy community, including the water, surrounding gardens, the scenic townhome neighborhood, and a recreation club.

CEO Jacobs complimented South Amboy Mayor Fred Henry, members of the South Amboy Planning Board and other municipal officials who have worked with the Windsor Healthcare team in creating the Venetian as part of the larger waterfront redevelopment project.

"We are very impressed with the professionalism and business-friendly approach of Mayor Henry and the other South Amboy officials,” said Mr. Jacobs. “Projects like this are complicated and require the commitment of the public and private sectors to work collaboratively to assure that the community they serve can thrive. Our compliments to the South Amboy officials.”
