Hillsdale Author Writes 32,000-Page Book on JFK

Walt Brown's book is so long it's only available on CD-ROM.

Walt Brown was a student at Pascack Valley High School in 1963 when he first started researching President John F. Kennedy.

Fifty years later, he has authored his seventh book on JFK — a nearly 32,000-page tome that's so long it's not available in print, just on CD-ROM.

That book, "JFK Chronology," tracks Kennedy's family back to the 19th century, looks at the presidents' life, then examines the aftermath of his death and investigations into the assassination.

It took Brown more than seven years to complete the book, which is divided into four main parts and includes 15 annotated appendices.

"It was a chore, but it was a labor of love," he said.

Brown is a former teacher in Closter and former adjunct history professor at Ramapo College. He has published six other books on JFK since 1992.

Brown's extensive research has made him such an expert on JFK that even Josiah Thompson, the author "Six Seconds in Dallas," the first book to allege a conspiracy in the assassination, has gone to him for information and sources.

As for Brown, he does believe the evidence points to a conspiracy — but he's skeptical of many of the theories other authors have proposed.

"There's so much conspiracy stuff out there which is absolute rubbish," Brown said.

"JFK Chronology" will likely be Brown's last book, though he would also like to write a chronology of World War II, he said.
