Obviously no one researched this circus and the violations it has incurred for not meeting the minimum federal requirements established in the Animal Welfare Act. Kelly Miller Circus has been cited by the USDA for failure to handle animals in a manner that is safe for the animals and public, failure to provide veterinary records, and failure to provide structurally sound enclosures. Kelly Miller Circus leases animals from its sister circus, Carson & Barnes. Public safety should be seriously considered when employing shows with dangerous animals. In July 2011 the USDA cited the tiger exhibitor traveling with the Kelly Miller Circus for violating the Animal Welfare Act when three tigers escaped from their transport cages. A horse was bitten by one of the tigers and it took roughly 30 minutes to safely contain the tigers. The escape was a serious threat to the public's safety and to other animals. On October 7, 2011: The USDA cited Carson & Barnes for improper handling of elephants who were giving rides while with Kelly Miller Circus. During the inspection the only elephant handler controlling an elephant during rides was observed handing money to another employee while the elephant walked away with the passengers. At another time, one handler was observed handling two elephants for a period of time. One elephant with passengers walked ahead while the handler loaded the second elephant. The first elephant stopped at a curtain exit with no physical barrier to stop her.

Animals in circuses and traveling shows are subject to inhumane confinement: magnificent big cats like lions and tigers are housed in cramped cages and let out only to "perform", majestic elephants are shackled and chained in trucks and train box cars; training methods utilize violence, fear, and intimidation to make animals perform ridiculous unnatural stunts. Not only is the physical abuse appalling, but the deprivation of any natural behaviors, choices and instincts is cruel. There is no educational value for children who attend animal employed circuses. Seeing unnatural tricks performed by wild animals does not teach them the true nature of these animals or to respect and appreciate animals, only that it is acceptable to mistreat and exploit animals for entertainment purposes. The abuse and suffering animals endure in circuses is irrefutable. If we all make a more informed and compassionate choice we can end this abuse and cruelty. Please do not support, promote, employ and attend circuses that use animals. http://tinyurl.com/kmcircus

Hello CJandMMom, CJ Ellie, and BanCircusAnimals, I don't know what do to here...it's just so awful...and, sadly, I don't think I can protest on Sunday -- if this changes, I will let you know...I do think that one of the NJ animal rights groups WILL be there protesting, so we could join them -- I am going to try and re-work my weekend, so that I can protest at least some of the day...I wish we could swap email/phone numbers? I don't want post it here, but would like you guys to have it...I am a Westwood Mom and just overly cautious about posting my info...any ideas? K2Love... p.s. just knowing that you three people, makes me feel better (I am not alone)...thank you for that...
