Friday Night Program Offers Safe Fun For Teens

Westwood and Washington Township teenagers can participate in Friday night programs at the Westwood Community Center.

The Westwood and Washington Township recreation departments are offering safe — but fun — activities for teens on Friday nights, including at least one special event each month.

The regular activities available at the Westwood Community Center include games like basketball, pool, foosball, Nok Hockey and video games, among others. This Friday there will also be a DJ and free slushies.

Other special activities offered have included laser tag and a bull-riding machine.

"We're trying to expand the amount of activities we offer to get kids off the streets," Westwood Recreation Director Gary Buchheister said.

The program is funded by a grant from the Municipal Alliance. Events are supervised by recreation department employees. Buchheister said they typically get between 50 and 60 teens at each event.

All of the events are open for free to Westwood and Washington Township teens from grades seven through 10.
