Westwood School Board Meeting, Sober Home Hearing This Week
Here's a look at the week ahead in Westwood, Washington Township and Hillsdale.
The Westwood Regional Board of Education may announce a decision regarding Superintendent Geoffrey Zoeller during their meeting this week.
The board has been investigating Zoeller after he took home a district-owned truck and generator for Hurricane Sandy, then left them there while he was away on vacation in Florida.
Zoeller apologized at the board's last public meeting and offered to make "full financial restitution" to the district for using the equipment.
Some, like Westwood Education Association President Barry Albert, have called for Zoeller to step down.
The Westwood Regional Board of Education is scheduled to meet at the high school Thursday evening. The official time and agenda have not yet been posted.
Sober Living Home Hearing
The Hillsdale Planning Board is scheduled to begin hearing an application for a proposed sober living home on Magnolia Avenue this week.
The home's owner wants to use the top section of a two-family home as a home for former addicts who have completed rehab programs.
Hundreds of borough residents have signed a petition opposing the sober living home because of its proximity to George G. White Middle School and because the home's owner apparently never notified the town of her plan.
A group of residents opposed to the plan have asked the board to delay the hearing to a meeting early next year so they can decide whether or not they want to hire a lawyer to formally object to the application. Board members previously said they would make a decision at their meeting this week.
The Hillsdale Planning Board meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Borough Hall.
