Westwood Police At School Safety Forum, Budget Vote This Week

Here's a look at the week ahead in Westwood, Washington Township and Hillsdale.

The Westwood-Washington Township Education Foundation is holding their annual gala at Seasons Wednesday. Seven district staff members and one alumnus will be honored at the event, which raises funds for the Westwood Regional School District.

Two Westwood Police Officers will be speaking at a school safety forum hosted by the New Jersey School Boards Association in Paramus that same night. Sgt. Michael Pontillo and Sgt. Matthew McClutchy will participate in a panel discussion about ways districts can improve safety. Registration starts at 6:30 p.m. in Paramus High School.

Students at George G. White Middle School in Hillsdale will have the next meeting of the Pizza and Pages book club Wednesday. The current book being discussed is Legend by Marie Lu.

Thursday, the Westwood Regional Board of Education is expected to vote on their annual budget for the 2013-14 school year, after a public hearing. The board previously introduced a $52 million budget, which would slightly decrease taxes for Westwood residents and slightly increase them for Washington Township residents. The board meets at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the high school.

The Rotary Club of Westwood will hold their regular meeting at Burke's on Old Hook at 12:15 p.m. Thursday.

Parkside Community Church will hold their monthly Circle of Friends Family Food Ministry Thursday, a free hot meal for anyone who wants or needs it. The event starts at 6 p.m.
