Westwood Firefighters Extinguish Trailer Blaze Behind Kmart

The cause of the fire was still under investigation Monday afternoon.

A burning trailer behind Kmart sent billows of smoke into the air that were visible all the way from Washington Avenue Monday afternoon, according Westwood Fire Chief Jaymee Hodges.

The trailer belongs to a landscaper who works for the property owner, Hekemian & Co. The landscaper also sells Christmas trees in the parking lot in December, according to Tim Renyard, the property manager. Renyard said the landscaper had permission to park the trailer behind shopping center.

There was no damage to the interior of the building.

Hodges said the cause of the fire was unknown and still under investigation.
