Washington Township Getty Closed

Garage owner Ted Foundopoulos said he plans to take some time off and may open a new garage at a different location.

The Getty gas station in Washington Township closed this week.

Garage owner Ted Foundopoulos previously told Patch he would be leaving the business because he lost of $58,000 security deposit when Getty Petroleum Marketing went bankrupt. There are plans to turn the station into a BP, but the company wanted an additional $30,000 security deposit for a 14-month contract, according to Foundopoulos.

The Getty had been out of gas for weeks but Foundopoulos, a popular local mechanic, had continued operating the garage.

Foundopoulos previously said he plans to take a month off to think about what he will do next, and hopes to find a new location for a garage.

This is such a disappointment to me. I became a regular at the station after I experienced an issue with my car breaking down. They were extremely helpful and prices were so reasonable. The mechanic and gas attendants were always so friendly and polite. Such a shame when bad things happen to good people. Wishing them all the best in the future!!!!

What the westwood kid doesn't realize is just how long the station has been there and just exactly what Teddy has been doing for our Town for many, many, years !
Ignorance is bliss ! As for the neighbor's, they chose to live in the home they purchased, a gas station didn't just appear one day. Compared to the prior Circus Act's that ran that station, Teddy kept that station up & is a credit to the Twp of Washington for everything he did !!!!!

Since there are 6 Washington Townships in NJ, it may be a good idea to include which one, identified by County, the story is referring to.

Jeff, each town or group of towns has their own patch site.

Teddy Foundopolous is an excellent mechanic and an honest businessman. He and his attendants deserve better treatment from gas giants. Good luck to him.

Best of luck, Ted! I hope you re-open a repair facility somewhere close, so that those of us who have come to depend on you for outstanding and honent service for our cars can continue to bring our business to you!

What a shame!! I've gone to Ted, since he bought the Getty from Mike. Gr8 mechanic, did the work on time and at the price he quoted you. No phony charges and honest work. That guy Frank that worked for him as a mechanic was also very good. Come back Ted.....who will work on my rusty ol Expedition now?? Ed Szabo
