Washington Township CVS Hearing Continues Tuesday

A developer wants to build a 14,500-square-foot CVS on the corner of Pascack Road and Washington Avenue.

The Washington Township Zoning Board is scheduled to continue hearing an application for a CVS at the corner of Pascack Road and Washington Avenue this week.

The plan calls for a 14,500-square-foot CVS to be built on the corner currently occupied by several houses. The developer has also offered to donate a piece of the land to the county for a proposed intersection improvement, if the application is approved.

At the previous meeting, traffic engineer Gary Dean took questions from the board and public about his testimony. According to Dean, the CVS would have an "imperceptible" impact on traffic at the busy intersection, if the proposed improvement is built.

The board also considered a letter from their engineer, Chris Statile, who suggested several changes to the plan after meeting with Bergen County representatives.

The Washington Township Zoning Board meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Municipal Complex.

The BIG, NEW CVS where the diner used to be, just over the hill in Westwood ISN'T enough? Really? We need another huge drug megastore? The RITE AID in the WT Strip down the street isn't enough? I wonder how homeowners along the back of that property are feeling - I mean, the only other establishment that would have been as redundant would be a bank, a convenience store, or a Dunkin' Donuts. Now that DD is coming back to the strip -- come onl! What's better for our town at that critical intersection - a convenience store! We have a bank almost across the street -- give us a good ol' 7-Eleven! Our youngsters need someplace wholesome to hang out -- and they'll have that traffic intersection to navigate to get there! Good times! Hey, where's our Assemblyman? Fighting the good fight for the Township, I see.

We do not need a CVS. It is as simple as that. RiteAid it right up the road in one direction in the Township, a new CVS in Westwood is just up the other road, and a 24-hour CVS just up the following road in Montvale. Without traffic you could probably visit each in 10 minutes time.
The traffic at that intersection is already absolutely unbearable. I live a few blocks up from the proposed site and it takes me, at a certain time of day, 10-15 minutes to get from my house to downtown Westwood, right down Washington Ave.
We DO NOT need more congestion, we DO NOT need a 4th CVS/RiteAid within a 5 mile radius, and we DO NOT need Washington Township to allow this horrible decision to lower our property value.
Shame on Sobkowicz, Beckmeyer, Cascio, D'Urso and whomever else would allow for this to happen.
This is your town to....don't let this mistake ruin the beautiful town you have grown to love and care for as our Mayor and Council members. Washington Ave defines our area to the rest of the County. It is the first piece of the Pascack Valley that visitors see. You 'get off the parkway at 168' and you should be able to see a welcoming, serene area. Not that of mini-malls and traffic.
Your job as our governing board is to make Washington Township more appealing, not less. Try using your hearts if you continue to neglect using your brains in this decision and make sure this does not happen. The fate of a town rests on your shoulders.

Hey jersey guy your so right, the last thing we need is a mini mall more traffic and noise at the intersection of pascack And Washington.the only reason for this is so seasons could have a parking at night to park the over loaded lot. The town allowed season to add on 2 times with no concern for the families around the area or the impact on the town.if you think they care about this problem your crazy, if they did these properties would have been addressed years ago. But I can guarantee if this was near there houses It would have been taken care of. I live across the street from these properties and it is sad I spent a lot of money to improve my house and property and they allow this mess to exist . They have a guy who is supposed to go around town and make sure properties are kept up he should be fired . The only times things get cleaned is if you call or voice your opinion , we are only 3 square miles and especially with the track record you would think this would be priority one. But no they are to busy fighting among themselves and trying to take care of issues from years ago. Maybe durso should stop by our neighborhood And talk with us . This will impact every resident and visitors . WHERE IS SCHROEDER NOW ???? This town needs new management and mayor and council .

What is getting lost in all this is the fact that the owner of the property has been allowed by our mayor and council to turn his properties into a blighted, ugly mess. He is holding these properties hostage until he gets what he wants, which is a big commercial development. I understand that the owner of these properties has influence because of sports dinners for the rec commission, but to reward him for his bad corporate citizenship where these properties are concerned by giving him a huge commercial development that will decrease the quality of life for those living around it is unconscionable.
