Washington Township Administrator to be Reappointed For 2013

Township officials praised Catherine Navarro-Steinel for her work in the municipal government.

Washington Township Administrator Catherine Navarro-Steinel will be reappointed to her position for 2013, Mayor Janet Sobkowicz said Monday.

Councilmen and residents praised Navarro-Steinel for improving operations in the township's government since she was appointed in January, including helping to keep the costs of Hurricane Sandy in this year's budget.

Navarro-Steinel "has really moved the town forward in a positive manner," Councilman Steve Cascio said.

At the same meeting, the council decided to delay a vote on additional budget transfers because Navarro-Steinel — who was out sick Monday — was not present to explain them.

Councilmen also expressed concern at Monday's meeting because Sobkowicz had not yet reappointed Navarro-Steinel. Sobkowicz said she planned to officially reappoint the administrator at the 2013 reorganization meeting January 2, and that she had already informed Navarro-Steinel of her intention.

The township has had difficulty finding an administrator they were happy with over the past few years, Councilman Fred Goetz said. Former Administrator Lilly Chin sued the township and Goetz earlier this year. The suit is still pending.

Perhaps CatherineNavarro Steinel can urge the Building Inspector to move a bit quicker in reviewing the petitions for installations. I have been waiting over 4 weeks to get approval for installing a generator. This is unheard of in other towns. I am very disappointed in the way our governing body works. Perhaps I as a long time resident (38yrs.) don't have enough clout!! Mrs. E.. Brown 45 Parkway Ct. Twp of Wash.
