Updated at 3:31 p.m. Wednesday.
Westwood and Washington Township officials announced they would hold a "trunk or treat" event at Westwood Jr./Sr. High School Saturday to make up for Halloween being canceled.
The borough was also enforcing a 7 p.m. curfew for all minors on Halloween, Mayor John Birkner wrote in an announcement to residents.
"We are asking for the cooperation of all parents and guardians to ensure that their children remain indoors while PSE&G and our DPW work to remove these existing hazards," Birkner wrote.
Hillsdale Mayor Max Arnowitz also asked residents to delay trick-or-treating until Saturday because of damage from Hurricane Sandy.
"The chance of down wires, trees and debris in the area will not allow for a safe environment for the children," Arnowitz wrote. "If everyone could save their goodies until Saturday, everyone will be able to have safe and fun day."
Governor Christie also issued an executive order Wednesday postponing Halloween until next Monday.
Arnowitz told Patch that cleanup was going well, with local emergency officials responding to calls and crews cleaning debris and repairing power lines around the borough.
"We'll survive," Arnowitz said. "It's just a matter of cleaning the mess, getting the power back on and moving on."
The Westwood-Washington Township "trunk or treat" will take place at Westwood Jr./Sr. High School on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m.
For anyone who can't wait until Saturday to get dressed up, Patch is still holding a Halloween costume contest. The details to enter are here.

It would be nice of our town officials posted something for all town residents to celebrate Halloween on Saturday. Let's face it, it's not safe for the kids and this would be the second year in a row for the kids to miss out on a good Halloween.
