Bergen Shelter Pups Head to "Puppy Bowl" Sunday

Animal Planet's "Puppy Bowl," the popular precursor to the Super Bowl, will feature four of Bergen's very own puppies.

Four Bergen County puppies are going to be big stars this weekend, taking to the field in the biggest game of the year - Animal Planet's "Puppy Bowl" this Sunday.

Cruz, Prince, Tuck and Eli, all German Shepherd mixes, came from the Bergen County Animal Shelter based in Teterboro, the county reports. The four were part of a litter of six puppies who were left abandoned outside the shelter on a cold night in October.

The shelter has since helped them all find homes but during their stay, these four were chosen to be featured in this popular event which helps raise awareness to local animal shelters.

The Puppy Bowl mimics a football game with puppies in the role of the players and hedgehog cheerleaders. Eli will be in the starting line-up.

Puppy Bowl IX airs on Animal Planet from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 3.

Glad that these good puppies are getting a chance but the shelter did wrong by us several years back when they knowingly let us adopt a dog who was a serial biter and subsequently was put down.
